My First Post

Welcome to Unrestricted Technology, a personal blog about computers, technology, and gadgets. Let me give you some background about myself, as I want to give readers an idea of where I am coming from. I am a 30-something engineer working in Silicon Valley (California). Gadgets, electronic or otherwise are an obsession for me. One example of a gadget I have is the Oregon Scientific wireless weather station that I bought a while ago. It has a radio-controlled (atomic) clock with alarm and electroluminescent backlight, indoor and outdoor (wireless) temperature and humidity sensors, a built-in barometer with altitude adjustment, and a weather trend indicator. Is that gadgety enough for you?

When I started my first web page in 1996, I didn't use any webpage creation tools or software. Instead, I learned about HTML tags, and edited pages by hand using a UNIX text editor (very painful). However, the web page fell into disuse after 1998, and it has been largely unmodified since that time. So far, from what I can tell about the Blogger interface, it is both easier and harder that I expected. If this makes any sense, some things are easier that I expected. At least for the most basic functions, editing HTML code is not a requirement. On the other hand, I am surprised that the composition window is not as straightforward as say MS Word.

This blog is an offshoot of my original blog Unrestricted in Efficiency. I started out writing about the minutiae of my life, but later the blog evolved such that I was writing about two main things: technology and investing. I have decided to focus this blog on computer and technology. For more information on stocks, investing, and personal finance, I suggest that readers visit the popular personal finance blog, PFStock.
