Over 15 years ago, I visited the Museum of Modern Art (the MoMA) in New York City. At that time, I saw what is known as a silicon chip layout on display. The plot is over 40 inches on each side. Having worked in the semiconductor industry for many years, I have acquired quite a few similar looking plots. This particular plot shows a memory chip from Intel Corporation.
Original plots are printed by something known as an Electrostatic Plotter. The enormous plotter was manufactured by the now defunct company Versatec. Most companies that design computer chips have since replaced their "electrostatic plotters" with an equivalent ink jet plotter from Hewlett Packard.

These plots generally consist of repetitions of geometric shapes. But, is it art? What do you think? Would you consider framing a computer chip plot and displaying in your living room?
